Design serves two purposes, the first being an outward expression of style and the second being an inward reflection of creativity. Even the most primitive of beings is either an expresion of creativity itself or expresses itself through style.
As a child I was exposed to my fathers' and mothers work. Both are accomplished poets, writers and artists. My father was an architect, designer, artist, sculptor and also an accomplished photographer and graphic designer. My mother assailed in poetry, pioneer crafts, calligraphy, paper making and all sorts of other craft fields. My parents made sure we had plenty of material to express our creative awareness.
I enjoyed drawing, mainly in ink pen, but later in water colors and eventually through computer graphics. When the IBM PC first came out in 1981, I bought one and from that time have been using varous software as an extension of my own hands.
In recent years Sketchup, a powerful concepting tool (now owned by Google) , appeared on the market. With this tool I was able to make quick sketches and give the concepts to the architects or fabricators for my projects thus savings loads of time. As a General Manager, it was unusual to also be able to provide almost instant solutions, but at times it proved to be the selling point and convinced clients that we understood what they wanted.
